About

Welcome to the SvenM blog.

My name is Sven Meirte. I work as a Notes/Domino Technical consultant.

About me and Notes/Domino

I started working with Lotus Notes 4.6 back in 1998. Before that I had never heard of Lotus, Domino, Iris…. For several years I’ve worked as a consultant doing both Notes and web development.

In 2004 I was ready for a change and started working as an IT Manager in a company close to home. No more traffic jams and only a 15 min. drive to work. At first it seemed like heaven. But soon I started missing the diversity and I missed ‘the edge’ that a consultant has.

So in januari 2007 I started working at the Belgian company GroupWave.

This time things were a bit different than before. I was able to make a deal with my manager that I could do both development and administration tasks. I didn’t feel much for an outsourcing contract where I would vanish for the next three to four years. I prefer the challenge of going to different customers and seeing different people.

I’m not used to working with Domino servers. I knew the basics but that was about it. So the last couple of months have been a huge learning curve for me. That’s the main reason I started this blog: it’s a transcript of the things I see when I’m out on a job. Not all of the things I write will be about success. I’ve made a few real beginner mistakes and it might be useful to share these so that others can learn from my mistakes.

Why SvenM?

Some people have asked me why this blog is called SvenM and not just Sven. Turns out that in the mid 70’s ‘Sven’ was a very popular name. When I went to school there was always at least one other guy with the same first name. Even now at my current job there are two other Svens. So let’s just say it’s a force of habbit to include the first letter of my last name.
